Lawline Profiles feature a number of different fields that users can fill in to publish publicly. These will all help increase your SEO (Search Engine Optimization, or your online visibility and ability to appear higher in search results), and serve as a way to highlight yourself and all of your professional achievements. Want to start filling in your profile fields? Here's a guide on how to update each section of the Lawline Profiles.
To get started, click the drop down menu in the upper right corner of the screen where it says Me. Then click View Profile. This will take you to the Profile section of your account.
Your Photo
First and foremost, you should add a photo of yourself to your profile page. This will not only help people who find you in online searches know that it's actually you (and not someone else by the same name), but will also create a more professional and polished look for your page.
To get started, simply click Upload Photo
Choose the photo you want to use as your profile picture and select Open
And voila! Your profile now has your picture attached!
If at any point you want to change the image, you can click Replace Photo and repeat the process.
Basic Information
At the top of the profile page, you'll have some basic info that you can choose to fill in, including your name, company, address, website, phone number, and social media accounts (see image above).
If you want to update the way your name displays for the public (e.g. your Lawline account currently says Liz Lemon but you want your public profile to say Elizabeth Lemon, Esq.), click on the pencil icon next to your name.
This will give you a form to make changes to your name, professional title, and company.
Make any changes you want, then hit Save Changes.
To add your address, click the pencil icon next to Address and a similar edit form will appear.
Fill in your address information and hit Save Changes.
To add your Website, Phone Number, and Social Media Links, click the + icons under each header. You can choose which, if any, of these fields you want to add to your profile. After updating each, be sure to click Save Changes. After you're done, the top section of your profile page should look something like this:
Biography
What would your profile page be without a biography? The information you share here will help increase your SEO as well as give viewers a clear sense of who you are and why they may want to contact you.
Before it's filled in, you'll see this:
Click "Add Biography" to begin entering in your bio information.
Try to write a bio that gives people a good sense of who you are, explains what your areas of professional expertise are, and entices people to want to contact you to learn more. Another important factor to consider when writing a bio is the key terms you're using throughout that will help boost your SEO. Try to use words that you know people are going to be searching for when they're looking for an attorney like you.
When you're done, click Save Changes.
Admitted Jurisdictions
Here is where you'll tell people the states in which you're admitted to practice. This is going to be automatically filled in with whichever states you selected for your CLE compliance with Lawline, but you can add more states if need be. You can also toggle states on and off from public view, so if you're admitted in quite a few states but only want to promote that you're practicing in one or two, you can turn the other states to "only me". This way, you'll still be able to track your CLE compliance in those states and get course recommendations, but you don't have to publicly share those states on your profile if you don't want to.
To get started, click the pencil icon at the top. This will open up the edit menu.
For each state, you can add the year you were admitted as well as choose the public visibility on your profile. Deleting a state altogether will remove that state from your account, so only choose this option if you are not admitted in that jurisdiction at all. If any of your states are missing, click Add Jurisdiction and select it from the drop down menu.
When finished, click Save Changes.
Practice Areas
The Practice Areas section works the same way. Any practice areas you had already added to your Lawline account will appear here automatically, but you can add, remove, or toggle visibility on your profile.
Once you finish, click Save Changes.
Publications
Have you been published and want to promote it to the world? Click the pencil icon next to Publications to open up the edit module.
You can add as many publications as you like, then click Save Changes.
Professional Memberships
Next, add your professional memberships by clicking the pencil icon and filling in the fields.
When you've finished adding them all, click Save Changes.
Education
Finally, add in your education information. Click the pencil icon to begin editing this section.
Once you finish, click Save Changes.
Congratulations! You've filled in your entire profile. Now you may want to preview how it'll look to the public before making it active. Scroll back to the top of the page and click Preview public profile.
This will take you to a separate page with a preview of how your profile will look once you make it active.
Here's what it would look like if I were to activate the profile I just updated:
Now all that's left is to toggle the Activate public profile button at the top of the profile editor in my account!
Now my profile will appear publicly on Lawline.com, and I can leverage the power of Lawline's strong SEO to appear in results when people search for my name, similar job titles, my practice areas, and more.
